Introduction of biometrics collection for applicants in South Africa

From 8 June 2016 we will commence the collection of biometrics in South Africa.

The Australian Visa Application Centres (AVAC) in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban will commence collecting biometrics on 8 June 2016. Biometric data will be collected by the Australian Government's service provider Teleperformance.

Biometrics will be collected from visa applicants, regardless of nationality, that are in South Africa at the time of making a visa application to enter Australia, unless they are excluded or exempted from doing so under Australian Government policy.

Visa applicants in South Africa, regardless of nationality:

  • that lodge their applications at the AVACs in South Africa might be asked to provide their biometrics at the same time.
  • that mail their applications to the AVAC might be sent a letter requiring them to attend the AVAC, in person, to provide their biometrics.
  • lodging their visa application online might be sent a letter informing them that they need to attend the AVAC, in person, to provide their biometrics.

Applicants that are required to enrol their biometrics at the AVAC will need to contact the AVAC to make an appointment.
